Gunugu Puvvu, known in English as celosia and sometimes called cockscomb, is one of the flowers most closely associated with Bathukamma, the nine day floral festival of Telangana. Its dense velvety plume holds its shape and colour for days, which is why it has long been one of the flowers arranged in the conical Bathukamma stack alongside tangedu, banthi and gummadi. These fresh celosia bunches are supplied in red and yellow so you can build the colour rings of a traditional Batukamma at home in the USA.
